Are Milwaukee M18 and M12 batteries interchangeable?

The Short Answer

No. M18 (18V) and M12 (12V) tools and batteries do not interchange. Only the M12/M18 charger is shared — it charges both, but the tools are platform-specific.

M18 packs are physically and electrically incompatible with M12 tools and vice-versa. There is no Milwaukee within-brand tool adapter between them. A multi-voltage M12/M18 charger handles both chemistries, which is the only point of overlap.
