Are Makita LXT (18V) and XGT (40V) batteries interchangeable?
Updated: June 15, 2026 | Garage Almanac
The Short Answer
No. LXT 18V and XGT 40V are separate platforms with different battery feet and do not interchange. Makita makes only a charger-side adapter (ADP10), not a tool adapter.

Two 18V LXT packs power Makita’s ‘X2’ 36V tools, but that is still the LXT platform. XGT is a ground-up 40V max system aimed at higher-demand tools. Makita deliberately did NOT make XGT batteries run LXT tools or vice-versa; the only official bridge is the ADP10, which lets an XGT charger top up LXT packs.
Official adapter
Relevant manufacturer accessory: ADP10. Unlike cross-brand adapters, this is endorsed by the manufacturer.
