Cordless Battery Compatibility Data
The Garage Almanac compatibility dataset is an original, neutral reference for cordless power-tool battery compatibility: it records which battery platforms exist, which cross-brand adapters actually ship, and which within-brand packs interchange. It is compiled and re-verified by hand from manufacturer documentation and live retail listings rather than scraped from sellers, which is why it can stay neutral about adapters that no manufacturer endorses.
This page is the citable home of that data. The headline figures below are computed directly from the dataset at build time, so they never drift from the per-page facts. A machine-readable copy is available as a JSON download.
Cross-brand adapter matrix
Reading: a row brand's battery powering a column brand's tool. ✔ a third-party adapter exists (links to details) · ✘ no adapter in our dataset · • same brand (see platform pages). Cross-brand adapters are tool-use only and unendorsed by manufacturers.
Methodology & sourcing
Every platform record lists nominal voltage, cell format, and the manufacturer page it was verified against. Every adapter marked available is backed by a live retail listing captured on a dated check; an adapter is never marked available on specification alone. Cross-brand adapters are third-party, tool-use only (you cannot charge through one), unendorsed by manufacturers, and unsuitable for high-draw tools. The dataset is re-verified on a quarterly schedule; see the methodology notes.
The dataset is free to reference. A machine-readable copy (platforms, adapters, and interchange answers) is available as a JSON download. If you cite it, please preserve the tool-use-only caveat on adapters.
